You can also try to ask the car rental agency if it is possible to return the car a few hours to late. Often it is not a problem, if you ask for it.

Finally it is normally cheaper if you prepay the car. So find a good price on the Internet and book the car instead of doing it when you arrive to the destination. An added bonus is also that the car is ready for you at the airport.
