The Aeromobile-Aeroduct System. This intelligent, automated means of transportation uses Gimbal AeroMobile for Airlines. The economic savings derived from AeroMobile’s short value chain are one of many benefits AeroMobile offers airlines. More than 11,000 airline passengers have used their own mobile phones in-flight since the Qantas evaluation of AeroMobile commenced in April 2009.
Initial agreements were signed in 2006, certification was completed early 2008 and operational service started in March 2008. As of April 2009 AeroMobile has had 100,000 passengers use the system during flight. The customer base was increased when Malaysia Airlines signed for an operation trial providing GSM and GPRS (email) services, AeroMobile has commitments from Qantas, and V Australia.
AeroMobile is also teamed with Panasonic Avionics Corporation to offer an IFE integrated solution, in addition to the present stand-alone one. Voice, SMS and GPRS services are available using the passenger’s own cell phone, PDA or BlackBerry, at a cost of usage set by the passenger’s existing mobile phone subscription.
